Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted on Thursday for making false statement to Congress and obstructing justice.
“No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case," Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, tweeted on Thursday.
The case is related to Comey handling of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.
During the hearing, Lindsey Halligan, the president’s former lawyer who was recently sworn in as the US attorney for the eastern district of Virginia, asked a grand jury to indict Comey for allegedly lying to Congress in testimony on September 30, 2020.
