The city of San Diego’s chief financial officer, Matt Vespi, is headed to the Port of San Diego.
Vespi will be joining the Port as its new chief administrative officer and is slated to start his new role on Nov. 4. A spokesperson for Mayor Todd Gloria said his last day is Nov. 3.
The longtime city leader’s exit comes at a tense time at City Hall. Councilmembers are on the fence about a consequential vote on water rates, and continue to grapple with the fallout of this year’s budget negotiations. Vespi also represents the city of San Diego on the San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors.
