STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island woman is on a mission to bring aid to Palestinians trapped in Gaza with two household names: Greta Thunberg and Nelson Mandela’s grandson.
Leila Hegazy, a Staten Island content creator and musician, is a part of the Global Sumud Flotilla traveling toward the war-torn territory.
The flotilla, according to her Facebook posts, was attacked by what she described as Israeli drones this week.
“Last night, there were about 15 drones over our boat, the Alma. We were not struck, but we did witness the other boats being struck, and it was pretty scary… kind of huddling in the dark, not knowing which boat would be struck next, watching these drones hover overhead,” Hegazy said in a video posted Wednesday .
