BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Southern California Edison has been installing upgrades to the existing equipment in the Kernville area to reduce the need for Public Safety Power Shutoffs, according to Edison International.
According to the electric utility holding company, SCE recently updated its PSPS policy, which led to an increase in power shutoffs in areas like Kern River Valley that are characterized by dry weather, heat and winds.
SCE customers in the Kern River Valley area have been expressing frustration toward frequent power shutoffs in the past couple months. In June, around 7,600 customers in Kern County were impacted by PSPS.
As part of its Wildfire Mitigation Plan, SCE is upgrading hundreds of miles of equipment in the Kernville area, according to the company. This work inv
