OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - North Omaha celebrated the grand opening of a portion of the Beltline Trail during a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.

The trailhead, which starts at the corner of Hamilton Street and Military Avenue, includes a new playground, recreation space, and an amphitheater.

The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District was a key organization behind the trail. Eric Williams with the NRD told First Alert 6, children are already using the new trail on a daily basis to walk to school.

“They were kicking around the area and they were on their way over to Walnut Hill Elementary, which is about one block from here,” Williams said. “I think people have started to realize this new feature is available.”
