INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) - The Independence Police Department issued a statement regarding an incident that took place near an elementary school in Independence on Wednesday.

The Independence Police Department issued a statement Wednesday providing details of a “planned, multi-agency law enforcement operation” that took place in the 100 block of 5th Avenue NE. It occurred near St. John’s Elementary School on Wednesday.

Police say there was no significant threat to the school after following an operational plan and secured perimeter.

The operation involved the Independence Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, and Iowa State Patrol. The operation was completed safely, according to authorities.
