Our freedom of speech is in jeopardy
While driving through Tamaqua on a recent morning, I pulled over to snap a photo of a business with a banner hung that read, “Impeached. Arrested. Convicted. Shot. Still Standing.” It struck me that the owner was proudly celebrating the fact that President Trump has managed to evade accountability for the crimes he committed and was convicted of.
Of course, the owner has every right to display such a tacky sign — that’s the very freedom our democracy was built on. Under the First Amendment, he can express his beliefs, and I won’t try to “cancel” him or demand he take it down just because I disagree.
But that same freedom of speech is being chipped away — from the top down and the bottom up.
Locally, a conservative anti-LGBTQ group is pressuring the
