TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) -- After hundreds of hours spent planning and building, Connecticut State Police Troop C has a brand-new K-9 training course -- thanks to a local high school senior.
John Sleeman of Tolland designed the obstacle course for the troop right in their front yard as part of his Eagle Scout project.
"I've always been involved with canines," John said. "I did the canine Olympics since I was very young with my family."
Zeek, one of Troop C's K-9s, is trained as a patrol dog and a rescue dog -- meaning he does everything from apprehending suspects to searching for evidence and people who are trapped. Zeek and the other K-9s get routine practice on the obstacle course so that they're ready when they encounter similar obstacles in the field.
