SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner is a chance for leaders in the community to reflect on some of the great accomplishments in Siouxland over the past year.

So, before keynote speaker General Paul Nakasone took the stage, the chamber presented its annual W. Edwards Deming Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

This year’s recipient was Antonio “Tony” Gomez, the founder of Gomez Pallet in South Sioux City.

A native of Mexico, Gomez immigrated to the United States in 1965.

While working in the meat packing industry, he recognized rebuilding broken and previously discarded pallets could save his employers money.

For the next four decades, Gomez grew a business he launched in his garage into the largest pallet supplier in Siouxland.
