Two unidentified people who gave water to a bat near Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle may have been exposed to rabies, public health officials say.
The bat was found Tuesday in the 1700 block of Boyer Avenue East, a residential road near the arboretum, according to Public Health — Seattle & King County.
A resident found a note on their door alerting them to a sick bat and saying two unknown people had given it water, the health agency said in an online alert.
The bat was euthanized by an animal control agency on Wednesday and a test confirmed it had rabies.
Rabies is life-threatening but treatable if caught early and treated before any symptoms develop.
