LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Metro Council passed a resolution Thursday calling on Gov. Andy Beshear and other state leaders to speed up the reopening of the juvenile detention center in Louisville.

The facility closed in 2019 due to financial issues.

The General Assembly set aside money for it to reopen two years ago, but it still hasn't opened.

Metro Council passed the resolution after Gov. Beshear addressed changes in the Department of Juvenile Justice Thursday.

Beshear filed two emergency regulations that require updates to restrictive housing for juveniles.

His office says the regulations prioritize safety and mental health.
