Perrysburg voters have a defining decision before them: continued excellence or a slide to mediocrity.

The Perrysburg Board of Education unanimously approved $6 million in cuts if voters reject a five-year operating levy that would bring the schools $11 million a year.

The athletic program and all other extracurricular activities will be eliminated and busing for high school students ended and extended only to elementary and junior high students beyond two miles from their school.

Major staff reductions will drive the rest of the spending cuts. Perrysburg voters need to know the ramifications of continued failure to pass a levy in support of their school system. The board of education was correct to make sure the entire community has this information.
