The project in the Sports Arena area referred to as Midway Rising is moving onto the next step, having been passed unanimously by the San Diego Planning Commission.

The hurdle passed on Thursday was a significant one for the development team, which shared in the meeting that the project has been in the works in some way or another since 2018.

The area surrounding what is now called Pechanga Arena would look drastically different, with the surrounding 50 acres undergoing demolition and renewal.

There was a nearly full room for the highly anticipated planning commission meeting, with more than a dozen speakers signed up to share their thoughts about Midway Rising, and their opinions running the gamut.
