Several local philanthropic organizations announced on Thursday that they would increase their annual giving by $70 million to help offset federal cuts totaling as much as $300 million per year,

The Prebys Foundation, Price Philanthropies and San Diego Foundation joined to launch United for San Diego, a collaborative initiative designed to amplify community impact at a time when federal policy changes are cutting vital services like food assistance and welfare support.

The partners invited other organizations and political leaders to join them.

According to county estimates, San Diego could lose more than $300 million annually, potentially leaving over 400,000 residents without health care and 100,000 without food assistance.
