Local and federal authorities are working to extradite a Macomb County convicted sex offender to face charges that he sexually assaulted an Eastpointe child, officials said Thursday.

The 52-year-old suspect was arrested earlier this week by federal marshals working with Detroit, Eastpointe, and New York State law enforcement officials after he fled to New York.

Investigators said the 12-year-old girl was kidnapped Monday, Sept. 22 as she walked on the sidewalk on the 14000 block of Crescentwood Avenue, near Nine Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, by the suspect, who took her into his home and assaulted her.
