SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Judge David M. Gill, who presided over some of the most notable criminal cases in the San Diego Superior Court's history since being appointed in 1974, has died at 90.

The San Diego Superior Court made the announcement Thursday, honoring the judge's "unwavering fairness, professionalism and a deep sense of justice."

"Today we remember and honor Judge Gill’s legal and judicial career, his remarkable character, generosity, and unwavering dedication to public service," the San Diego Superior Court said. "He deeply cared about his role as a judge and wore his robe with humility and respect. He was admired and respected for his commitment to justice, his ethics, his patience, his ability to be fair and impartial and his strong belief in the jury system."
