MCLEAN COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - One of the country’s most famous highways could soon be a historic trail.

U.S. Republican Representative Darin LaHood filed a federal bill, called the Route 66 National Historic Trail Designation Act , which would designate the road as a National Historic Trail.

The road starts in Chicago and ends in Santa Monica, California. It stretches 2,400 miles, passing through McLean County.

The 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, used the road while he was practicing law in Illinois in the 19th century.
