PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria City Council members took an initial look into the proposed 2026-2027 city budget at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The proposed budget laid out $301 million for expected expenses and $298 million for projected revenues in 2026. It also included a reserves balance of $136.3 million at the end of next year.

The budget is focused on six key priorities: infrastructure, community safety, business growth, downtown development, embracing equity, and increasing quality of life.

City Manager Patrick Urich stated that the three top priorities for spending are paying off debt, funding capital projects, and covering pension costs.

The budget, according to Urich, includes $48 million in capital projects, including complex and expensive work on the combined sewer system
