WILSONVILLE, Ore. (KPTV) - Inmates at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville who helped raise service dogs got to see the dogs with their new owners on Thursday.
The dogs being celebrated spent their first 18 months being cared for and trained by women who are known as puppy handlers.
The program was launched in 2023 by Canine Companions.
The dogs learn 30 different cues, like sit and paw, and also get exposure to grooming so they’re comfortable with it.
They then continue to a training center in California to become certified service dogs.
