Just more than one month after measles was found in Mesa County, local public health officials said the outbreak has been officially contained.

The initial case in mid-August, the county’s first in over 20 years, led to six additional infections over the following weeks.

Since the new infections were all linked to each other, Mesa County Public Health Epidemiologist Supervisor Kathleen Satterfield said they met the criteria for an “outbreak.”

As intimidating as the term might sound, Satterfield said the agency’s collaboration with community partners (like Mesa County Valley School District 51) made efforts to curb the spread much more effective.
