Social activist Yogendra Yadav on Friday likened the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision of Bihar's voter rolls to demonetisation, saying that it's "a medicine in search of a disease, a medicine that proves worse than the disease".
"The SIR is not a voter list revision, it is a master, manipulative reset. Because in the long run, it changes the very structure of how voting rights are to be decided," Yadav said while addressing a session at the ongoing 2025 India Today Conclave Mumbai , a flagship event of the India Today Group.

Countering the activist's claim, however, senior lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay said that the SIR process is a must for the entire nation and should be conducted at a regular interval of five years.
