KASARGOD: A police officer died tragically in a car accident while going for a search on drugs. The dead is senior CPO Sajeesh of the DANSAF squad of Bekal DySP. The accident happened Friday morning at 2.45 am at Chengala fourth Mile.

The Melparambu police had seized the drugs being smuggled in a car at 4:30 pm last evening. Ahmed Kabir of Chattanchal was arrested in the case. However, another accused, Dr Muneer of Kannur had escaped.

Sajeesh and his team were going to Kasargod following information that Muneer was there. While entering the service road from the south side of the 4th Mile Underpass, a tipper lorry heading to Kasaragod from the Cherkala side hit their vehicle.
