BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A fugitive wanted for kidnapping in Virginia was taken into custody last night after a standoff in Bertie County.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin says yesterday, around 6 p.m., deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of Main Street in Colerain for a domestic situation.

While deputies were on the way, they were notified that one of the parties involved, 40-year-old Donnie Deloatch Jr., was wanted in Virginia on abduction and kidnapping charges.

When deputies got to the home, they were told Deloatch had barricaded himself inside the house.

Nash County deputies were called in to assist with the standoff. Law enforcement officials say Deloatch was given several opportunities to surrender, but he refused.
