EL CENTRO — In a firm declaration of support for clean energy development, Imperial County officials are championing the approved Hell’s Kitchen lithium and power project while pushing back against what they describe as a pattern of obstructionist litigation that delays critical benefits for the region.
The stance comes after a series of legal victories for the County and project developer Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR). On February 26, 2025, the Imperial County Superior Court officially denied a lawsuit filed by environmental groups Comite Civico del Valle (CCV) and Earthworks, deeming the challenge to the project’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR) “meritless.” The groups have since announced an appeal, filed March 10, to the 4th District Court of Appeal.
