Hurricane Humberto strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Friday but remains slow-moving as it crawls northwest at 5 mph.

Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph with higher gusts. The eye of Hurricane Humberto was located near latitude 22.3 North, longitude 57.7 West.

A slow west-northwest to northwest motion is expected during the next couple of days.

Significant strengthening is expected over the next couple of days, and Humberto is forecast to become a major hurricane later today or on Saturday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 979 mb (28.91 inches).
