A former NSW Transport employee who disappeared before he was due to give evidence at a corruption inquiry has been arrested in Sydney’s south-west.
Detectives from the Cybercrime Squad swooped on 49-year-old Ibrahim Helmy in Lakemba at around 1.30pm on Friday, months after the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) issued a warrant for his arrest.
“He (Mr Helmy) was taken to Campsie Police Station where the warrant was executed, which authorises police to detain the man to ensure his appearance before the ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) inquiry,” NSW Police confirmed in a statement.
“No criminal charges have been laid.”
