HMRC is to claim money back from some pensioners over the coming months.

The cash will be taken as part of new Winter Fuel Payment rules.

Not all pensioners qualify for the payments - but they will initially be handed to everyone under a complicated system.

Those with annual incomes above £35,000 won't qualify for Winter Fuel Payments so they won't get to keep the money.

HMRC will take this money back from wealthier seniors, in most cases automatically through PAYE.

So there may be some confusion when ineligible people spot the payments in their bank accounts.
