SHREVEPORT, La. — The Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Council is hosting a yearlong series of "Celebrate Barksdale" activities on Barksdale Air Force Base and throughout the local community.

What began as a single day of on-base events has expanded into a full calendar of celebrations, thanks to the support of community partners in Shreveport and Bossier City.

The 28th Annual Celebrate Barksdale Family Cookout and Festival will kick off the annual activities on Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the Hunt Housing Office on base. A team of approximately 100 civilian and retired military volunteers will prepare and serve hamburgers and hotdogs to over 3,000 base personnel.
