At least 1,700 fewer people are likely to get housing help from Multnomah County this fiscal year, as the county struggles to account for the loss of about half of the state homelessness and rent assistance money it was counting on.

The proposed cuts to homeless services are part of a significant reduction in the county’s social services this fiscal year caused by a smaller than expected state budget . Potentially drastic cuts to federal funding are expected to be finalized soon and to reduce the social safety net in Oregon even further.
