DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- A Clayton police officer is receiving recognition for his life-saving efforts recently.

On Sept. 12, Officer Joseph Pugh responded to a call reporting that a 2-month-old was not breathing, but rather choking.

He was first on scene and immediately administered medical aid, including CPR.

Pugh performed CPR until the Northmont Fire Collaborative arrived. From there they took over rendering aid.

"Should the infant have continued to choke it would likely have gone into respiratory arrest and then eventually cardiac arrest," the Clayton Police Department said in a statement.

"Officer Pugh’s quick response and diligence led to the preservation of the life of the infant."
