POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Mothman Festival is a tradition in the city of Point Pleasant to celebrate one of West Virginia's most famous cryptids. The festival is much more than just a gathering to talk and shop however. It also supports local and national charities.
According to a post on the Mothman Festival Facebook page, this year's estimated attendance was a record-breaking 32,000 people, which led to a lot of fundraising as a result.
According to the post, Ghostbusters raised $1,533 for the American Heart Association and the Nice List charities, and Star Wars actors raised $3,301 for a suicide prevention charity. Meanwhile the money spent to park at Napa went to the Mason County Animal Shelter, while church parking lot fees benefited their individual youth programs.
