Esquimalt Fire Rescue is pushing residents to Charge Into Fire Safety, the theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign that targets lithium-ion batteries.
The National Fire Protection Association campaign highlights the importance of buying, charging and recycling the batteries appropriately.
Many of the electronics used every day – including smartphones, tablets, power and lawn tools, laptops, e-bikes, e-scooters and children’s toys – are powered by lithium-ion batteries. As the use of these items has increased in recent years, so has the number of fires associated with them, Esquimalt Fire said in a news release.
