MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is in Memphis this Friday, September 26, amid finalized plans for the National Guard’s deployment to the city.

During his visit, Governor Lee held a press conference at the Tennessee Highway Patrol Headquarters to discuss a new safety initiative that is coming to the city, which will include $100 million in funding.

“I care deeply about Memphians and the city of Memphis,” Governor Lee started, sharing his personal history and familial connection with the city. “We want every Memphian to feel safe; we aren’t going to let anything hold us back to make this city better.”

Lee confirmed that 13 agencies will be coming to the City of Memphis, with some agencies arriving as early as next week.
