WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Saturday, Sept. 27 will mark one year since Hurricane Helene made landfall in western North Carolina.
The storm devastated countless people as it caused widespread flooding and outages, infrastructure damage, displaced families and left an emotional toll on the community.
During his first week in office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to accelerate rebuilding efforts and assess FEMA's previous response under the Biden administration, according to a release from the White House. The order, signed in January , directed federal agencies to expedite roadway clearance and rebuilding, including a section of I-40 that remained closed after the storm.
