CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A tropical system forming in the Atlantic could have a significant impact on the Carolinas next week. But whether this system becomes a named storm or not, it will bring the risk of heavy rain and flooding to the region.

What we know: • Invest 94-L is a tropical wave that is currently struggling over and near Hispaniola to develop since it is stuck over land and taller mountains up to 8,000-10,000 feet. • There is an 80% chance of development over the next two days and a tropical storm is very likely to form sometime Friday-Sunday. • This storm is no longer expected to move out to sea but will make a turn toward the United States. • The timing, intensity and exact path continue to change and every 3-6 hours.
