A 42-year-old woman was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when she was sideswiped by a motorist who fled the scene in Kakaako, police said.
The crash happened about 4:27 p.m. on South King Street near the intersection of Alapai Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section.
Police said the woman was riding a moped eastbound on South King Street when an unidentified driver attempted to change lanes and struck her. The motorist continued traveling eastbound without stopping to render aid or provide information.
The woman, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway. She was taken by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition, police said.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision, but
