A Texas medical examiner has identified remains found outside a San Antonio plumbing business last week as a 30-year-old man.

The skull belongs to Austin Wyrosdick, the Bexar County Office of the County Manager confirmed to USA TODAY on Sept. 26.

When asked about Wyrosdick's cause of death this week, the San Antonio Police Department listed the incident type as an “apparent sudden death,” but the Bexar County Office of the County Manager said his cause and manner of death are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.

Skull reportedly found by employee while cutting grass

A plumbing company employee found the remains on Monday, Sept. 16 while mowing along the fence line, said Jennifer Harrell-Smith, who co-owns Harrell Commercial Plumbing. The employee found the remains around 1:30 p.m. that day, the San Antonio Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY.

“I saw what looked like a dried cantaloupe or something,” Walter Stephens, the employee who found the remains, told KSAT. “I picked it up, and the bottom part of the jaw stayed on the ground. When I turned it over and saw the teeth, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

San Antonio police said authorities were called to the scene and found that the skull was decomposing. As more officers arrived, they found additional “small possible body parts,” police said.

USA TODAY contacted the the San Antonio Police Department on Sept. 26 to see if there was a missing person's report or previous 911 call about the man but did not immediately receive a response.

‘You don’t think you’re going to see a human skull'

According to television station KSAT, the skull was found near water bowls for neighborhood dogs, and authorities allegedly found more remains along a creek behind the business.

Stephens, who found the remains, immediately told his bosses, including company co-owner Brad Harrell, who contacted the San Antonio Police Department.

“You don’t think you’re going to see a human skull, ever really,” Harrell told KSAT.

Harrell and Stephens both walk around the property often, and according to Harrell, the skull may have been moved there recently by someone or an animal.

Harrell-Smith, company co-owner, said they initially thought it was some sort of prank or joke. When asked by USA TODAY, she said the business owners do not know the man the remains belong to, nor has he ever worked for them. She said it's a sad situation though.

"A lot of emotions come through when you see something like that," she said, adding that she believes someone was meant to find those remains. "Sometimes God puts things in front of people for it to be found. He put it there for us to find, to help somebody out, to have a family have closure."
