LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Some Brandenburg residents received a “code red” alert on Thursday, and Sheriff Phillip Wimpee told WAVE it was for unusual reasons.

The alert noted that investigators were checking on a report of a “suspicious package.” Several people were evacuated along Meade Springs Road, for what they would later learn was an undetonated, likely WWII-era piece of ammunition at a home.

“You know what I was thinking is – they evacuated us. This is a pretty new house," Mandi Thomas said. “I don’t think that bombs are covered under our insurance.”

Thomas and her fiancé had no idea that what their kids had discovered in their front yard several months ago could have been so dangerous.
