Death in the leafy green Maryland suburbs! Beyond the Gates on Thursday killed off Doug McBride, the character originated by Jason Graham .

Doug, who is married to Lauren Buglioli’s character Vanessa, perished in a car crash. Buglioli paid tribute to McBride’s run on Instagram. “I love you, husband,” she wrote.

Graham, who’s previous credits include 911, All-American Homecoming and Sisters , was part of the original cast when the CBS soap debuted in February. Doug and Vanessa McBride have been married since the beginning.

Beyond the Gates has been renewed for a second season . The sudser from Michele Val Jean is up 67% in multiplatform viewership from last year’s time period and beats ABC’s General Hospital by 7% among women 25-54 on broadcast, according to Nielsen.
