The Florida Panthers are already facing major adversity in their quest for a three-peat.

Captain Aleksander Barkov went down at practice this week with a right knee injury this week and the latest update from SportsNet insider Elliotte Friedman isn’t a promising one.

“Going to know more in the next 24-48 hours, but Panthers are bracing for the possibility their captain, Aleksander Barkov, could be lost for the season,” Friedman posted on social media. “Would be brutal, no one wants to see that…but, unfortunately, was a bad injury."

Panthers coach Paul Maurice confirmed that Barkov was undergoing knee surgery on Friday but didn’t have a more detailed update than that.
