MADISON (WKOW) -- Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) said its team of registered nurses can help people find abortion services during Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin's (PPWI) upcoming pause on abortions.

PPWI announced that as of Oct. 1, it would not be taking appointments for abortions , when President Donald Trump's federal spending bill officially becomes law. A provision in the law stops organizations like Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds for any other reproductive services for a year if they provide abortions.

With PPWI's pause, only two independent clinics in Milwaukee will offer abortion services in the entire state of Wisconsin. Health officials expect this will lead to a backlog in appointments.
