ROCKY RIVER, Oh. - Pumpkin was in peril. The prognosis for Pumpkin, a Portuguese water dog, that went missing on September 13, 2025, was not so good.

Pumpkin is 15 years old and deaf. She somehow escaped her family home along the shoreline of Lake Erie, in Rocky River, in the evening and the sun was beginning to set.

Her family immediately launched a desperate search, spending hours walking the neighborhood with flashlights, checking under shrubs well past midnight.

Pumpkin’s family and friends, even neighbors desperately searched, but the gravity of the situation was apparent.

“She’s black, it’s dark, and calling her doesn’t help, she’s deaf,” recounts Jarmoszuk.
