The Blackfalds Fire Department is inviting residents to learn about fire safety during an open house on Oct. 4.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fire hall, ahead of National Fire Prevention Week.

Activities include fire truck rides, junior firefighter games and firefighter’s bowling, along with live demonstrations on kitchen fire safety at 1:30 p.m. and Christmas tree safety at 3:30 p.m.

A free barbecue will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and information booths will provide details on business fire inspections, residential alarm systems and how to become a firefighter.

The department’s volunteer firefighters respond to about 300 emergency calls each year.

You can learn more about the department on the Blackfalds Fire and Rescue website.
