Songs and gift-giving filled Carolyn Barron Montessori School as students and staff participated in their annual Peace Day celebration.
Every year on Sept. 21, communities around the world recognize the United Nations-sanctioned holiday as a day to honor the cessation of hostilities and spread public awareness on issues related to peace, according to the U.N. website.
The Carolyn Barron Montessori School held its celebration on Friday, Sept. 19. This year’s theme was “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
Head of School Tracy Piepho gave a brief message followed by a moment of silence and a retelling of Peace Day’s history by two upper elementary students.
To close out the ceremony, students sang “Light a Candle for Peace” and exchanged handmade gifts to each other.
