If only the Liberal government of former prime minister Justin Trudeau had implemented the wise policies of former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper, then Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government wouldn’t be facing yet another strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
If CUPW had seen the writing on the wall in 2014, when the Harper government introduced a sweeping revamp of Canada Post, we’d now have a streamlined and economically viable post office. Harper’s plan would have expanded community mailboxes and cut back on door-to-door delivery to staunch the hemorrhage of cash from the Crown corporation.
Sadly, neither of those realities dawned on either (a) the Liberal government or (b) CUPW. So, here we are with the union immediately calling on its members to strike
