Peoria Unified School District governing board approved a policy during its Sept. 25 public meeting that will regulate parent attendance at high school practices.

The purpose of the policy, introduced by board President Heather Rooks, is to establish procedures and expectations regarding parent and guardian attendance at high school athletic practices.

Rooks said the policy has the safety aspect, but also ensures the district values its parents and their partnership with their students’ coaches.

“I just know that parents get excited when they see their student practicing. A lot of parents sometimes can’t make the games, or it’s just chaos, and just being able to sit there and watch their kid practice is really important,” Rooks said.
