BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man whose attempted carjacking of a family near the Park at River Walk was stopped by a Good Samaritan was sentenced Thursday.
David Amaya, 46, received a prison term of of 25 years and four months, according to court records.
He was found guilty in June of attempted carjacking and robbery, assault with a gun and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Dec. 26, 2023, the victims — two adults and a juvenile — went to the River Oaks Nails salon, located across the street from the park on Stockdale Highway.
Upon leaving around 6 p.m., they were followed by Amaya, who wore a ski mask and hoodie and was armed with a gun.
Amaya approached and ordered the three to stay in the vehicle, prosecutors said.
Two of the victims fled. Amaya held the third at gunpoint.
