Jahmai Jones hits a home run

The Detroit Tigers broke their eight-game losing streak on Thursday at Progressive Field, beating the Cleveland Guardians 4-2.

The Tigers, who were one game out of first before Thursday's contest, are now tied for first place with the Guardians. Both teams are 86-73, but Cleveland would win in the case of a tie.

The Houston Astros, who are fighting for the last wild card spot, won Thursday, beating the Oakland A's 11-5. They are now 85-74.

The Tigers got solo homers from leadoff hitter Jahmai Jones, Wenceel Pérez, and Riley Greene.

The Tigers had great pitching, with Troy Melton starting.

Then these relievers helped clinch the win: Brant Hurter, Tommy Kahnle, Tyler Holton, Kyle Finnegan and Will Vest.
