GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Next Wednesday will begin a new fiscal year for the State of Michigan and that means a new budget needs to be in place. Late yesterday an agreement was announced that would allow for a budget to be voted on.

The Governor Senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House sent out a release saying they agreed in principle on some of the big things, including $2 billion for roads — more than a billion less than the Governor said was needed and less than the House had in their budget.

Speaker Hall talked of eliminating waste fraud and abuse to free up money for other priorities and Senate Majority Leader Brinks said the agreement meets the priorities of Michiganders.

A tax on marijuana is part of the plan, as is eliminating taxes of tips and overtime.
