PORTLAND, Oregon — A former security guard was sentenced Friday to more than 16 years, or 200 months, in prison for raping a woman he accused of shoplifting at a Portland Rite Aid in 2015.

Daniel Luis Cassinelli, a former loss prevention officer, was found guilty earlier this year in Multnomah County Court.

For survivor Maryann Stott, the sentencing was a moment she feared might never come.

“I’ve been here since day one, and I had to see him go in handcuffs,” Stott said.

Cassinelli assaulted Stott in January 2015 after accusing her of shoplifting, prosecutors said. He threatened to report her to police if she told anyone about the attack. Stott underwent a sexual assault forensic exam at the time, but there wasn’t enough evidence to link Cassinelli to the crime.
